Fundamentals of Bus Collision Investigation - registration coming soon

Description

Learn about effective tools and techniques relating to data collection, on-scene evidence documentation, damage and debris evidence analysis, witness interview techniques, computation of simple speed estimates, and report writing. 

Gain in-depth practical application knowledge of accident reconstruction techniques and the use of mathematical formulas to evaluate contributing factors associated with bus collisions/investigations. 

This course also includes and introduction to Safety Management Systems (SMS) principles, basic collision investigation procedures. Knowledge of high school algebra will greatly assist participants to successfully complete this course. 

Course Elements

• Introduction of SMS Principles
• Chain of events in a collision and investigator tools
• Center of mass and evaluating damage and debris
• Interpretation and measurement of marks on the road
• General principles of collision investigation math and use of calculators
• Minimum speed estimates from skid marks and yaw marks
• Interview techniques
• Principles of field sketching
• Photography
• Collision case preparation and presentation workshop
• Outdoor exercise (PPE required: leather upper, flat sole shoes)
• Pretest, quizzes, homework, group presentations, final exam

Bus Operator Trainers, Collision Investigators, Safety Managers and Supervisors, Operations and Maintenance Managers/Supervisors, Risk Managers, Local Law Enforcement personnel (traffic/accident investigators)

Course Schedule

• Monday, July 20 - Thursday, July 23 (8:00am - 4:30pm)
• Friday, July 24 (8:00 am - noon)

We require that all participants attend all sessions in order to receive a U. S. Department of Transportation certificate of completion for the course.  TSI understands that emergencies do arise, so cellphones are allowed if set on silent mode only.

Other Notes:

All participants will need to bring a calculator to class.  A simple calculator which offers the square root function ( √ ) is required.  Scientific calculators are discouraged and due to the fact that most of these models include an “automatic rounding” function.
