MPTA Provides Joint Legislative Testimony on Transit Funding
MPTA joins with TRU and ATU to call for increased state funding for local bus operating
On Tuesday, March 18, MPTA Director John Dulmes joined Transportation Riders United Director Megan Owens and Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Michigan Legislative Conference President Earl Cox in testimony before the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee.
They shared about the importance of local public transit and the need for transportation funding proposals to include a share for transit services. House Bills 4180-4187 would provide more than $3 billion to Michigan roads and bridges but only $50 million for transit systems - far from what is needed to stabilize transit funding and meet increased demands.
Especially on National Transit Employee Appreciation Day, we were glad to share about transit funding with the legislature but recognize more work is needed to ensure that investments are made!
